Currently, Hemloch Aquaculture raises Redear Sunfish (Shell Crackers) and Bluegill. These two types of fish have already been living in this loch for over a century and the fish in the farming habitat share the same waters as their wild counterparts.
The Fish
Redear Sunfish
The redear sunfish generally resembles the bluegill except for coloration and somewhat larger size. Redears tend to occupy deeper water and can be difficult to farm because they resist coming to the surface to feed. However, our redears are pellet trained to eat at the surface, promoting growth beyond that of fish raised using standard aquaculture practices.
Bluegill
Bluegill tend to occupy shallower waters than redear sunfish. Our bluegill are pellet trained to eat at the surface.
