We are a family run operation...
We are a family run operation committed to raising our fish in an environment that most closely resembles their natural environment to reduce stress to animals that results growth and reduces attrition.
In the early 20th century, the property was a productive rock quarry that was filled with water during the great flood of 1913. Now, Hemloch stands as a century old lake with an area of 20 acres and a depth 30 feet with clear waters that are spring fed year-round.
Our fish are housed in raceways that are suspended along the shore of the deepest area of the loch. Each raceway is eight feet deep and allows the fish to go deeper than standard farm ponds for warmer water in winter and cooler water in the summer. As well, blowers at the end of the raceways provide a constant flow of fresh water that keeps a steady oxygen level and moves waste out of the raceways. Together, this system reduces stress on the animals and promotes them to be more active, eat more, and grow larger.
